HIGHWAY TABERNACLE ~ RESURRECTION LIFE

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

God’s Word Lives!

We know that God’s Word is “alive and active” (Hebrews 4:12), because it is “God-breathed” (II Timothy 3:16): The same breath that breathed life into Adam’s nostrils infuses the Bible with life.

However, have you considered that the Bible does not just live on the page? In reading Joshua 1:8, I was struck by God’s charge to the Israelites: “keep this Book of the Law always on your lips.”  The “Book” is to be kept alive in us!

There are four ways in which we keep the Book is to be kept alive in our bodies.

1. In our Minds: Joshua 1:8 continues with the command to “meditate on it day and night.” Meditation on the Word of God shapes our thoughts and helps us to make wise choices.  Thoughts of God’s Word form a barrier against the evil with which the world bombards us day and night.

2. In our Hearts: Most Christians can quote Psalm 119:11 – “I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” When we memorize God’s Word and truly take it to heart, it shapes our affection, turning our hearts after the things of the Spirit rather than the things of the flesh.

3. On our Lips: Keeping God’s Word on our lips (Joshua 1:8) means fulfilling our responsibility as “Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us” (II Corinthians 5:20).  This means passing God’s Word to the next generation, to our neighbors, and to the ends of the earth.

On our Feet: Psalm 119:105 reminds us that God’s Word is a lamp to our feet, showing us the steps that we should take. As we allow God’s Word to direct our paths (Proverbs 3:6), we can be assured that we will not be led into temptation (Matthew 6:13).

Is the Word of God alive and active in you?  Let us rededicate ourselves thinking, loving, speaking, and walking in God’s Word!

Let’s Make Highway Shine!

Our 120th anniversary is fast approaching (a month away) and we want the building (inside and out) to look great as we invite guests, returning members, and friends to celebrate with us.

If you can paint, clean, or help with odd jobs around the building, please contact Bob Monreal at bmonreal@springgardenacademy.org or 215-226-1000 or let Pastor Mark know.  Our priority for the next few weeks is the painting of the downstairs fellowship/classroom areas.  So, if you can paint, call now!

There is a lot to do but we can get it done as we work together.

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

It always comes back to trust. Living every day with all its pressures, deadlines, and limitations so easily and naturally produces anxiety. We all know what it’s like to lie awake at night trying to “figure it out.” I am discovering that most    answers do come…but not always when I want them. I think of the gap between my need for answers and the visible results for answers as “the faith gap.” To overcome debilitating stress, I must learn to trust in the person of Jesus even more than the outward blessings of Jesus.

It was during a special meal with his disciples that Jesus announced some   ominous events which surfaced some anxious questions in the hearts of his followers. “Who would betray him…why would he have to suffer…why did he speak of leaving”? Knowing their stress, Jesus spoke these amazing words, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you” (John 14:1-2). From this episode I come to realize that Jesus doesn’t “owe us” answers. We must learn the spiritual “secret” of  being content with his awesome presence and truly believe that he understands our situation, and provides all the grace and power we will ever need. Jesus is enough. I want to get over the gap from my need to seeing the answers, but often the time frame is beyond my control. Will we learn to trust, or give in to an anxious, fretting spirit. Faith is available. God will give; we must ask.

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

Hello everyone, hope you are enjoying your week.  At RLC this Sunday, we will be looking at 1 Samuel 17, one of the most familiar stories in the Bible.  Please be sure to read from 1 Samuel as there are some fascinating plots and tellings of how God is sovereign in the struggles of human life.  If you are busy at work, just download a bible app on your smart-phone and take 5 minutes to read this chapter during your break (you are entitled to breaks!)  I believe studying lives of other people who lived by faith (and some little to no faith) will help us in facing our challenges of everyday life.  Blessings of the Lord be with you this week.
