HIGHWAY TABERNACLE ~ RESURRECTION LIFE

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

Great passages of the Bible are not just gifts to be opened, appreciated, and set aside. Instead, they are like favorite dishes. You may not “eat” them every day, but they keep showing up on the table…always nutritious and satisfying. The Lord reminded me of a great passage from Philippians 4:6-7 while I was praying the other day. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” There are some amazing “morsels” from this passage.

I am reminded that worry and anxiety need not dominate my life. While there will always be things in my life’s journey which bring cause for “concern”, I can turn every one into prayer. And, while casting all my cares on the Lord, I am to include a healthy dose of gratitude (with thanksgiving, v6). This reminds me of God as my Father and not just my provider. Another morsel I feed on is the promise of peace. God’s peace is not an occasional feeling, but can be a constant companion. Favorable circumstances will come and go, but God’s peace is not dependent on the “weather”. In fact, His peace is not the   absence of something, but is the presence of something. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, peace rules. You can be in the midst of swirling complications, and experience peace because Jesus is there. He is the Prince of peace!

May our Lord grant each of us the faith to trust him with each day’s challenges and the peace which transcends all understanding.

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

In my Bible readings I am in 2 Chronicles and have been thinking about King Rehoboam, the son of Solomon. He was one of those “mystery” persons…sometimes he is following the Lord and  sometimes not. He reigned over Judah for 17 years, and the Bible records a mixture of  blunders and blessings. The one phrase that most keenly reveals his character is found in 2 Chron. 12:14 which says, “He did evil because he neglected to set his heart on seeking the Lord.” This statement jumped out at me and tells me that prayerlessness is not just an oversight, but a welcome mat to evil.

Throughout life our hearts seek after meaning and happiness. If we don’t find these in God, we look elsewhere because an empty heart will be filled with something. To not seek the Lord and find our joy and satisfaction in him exposes us to the temptations and evil which continually shout for our attention and affection. If only we understood the blessings of life found in Jesus, then seeking him would never be a “burden” but the highest blessing. “May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you: may those who love your salvation always say, ‘The Lord be exalted!’” Psalm 40:16.

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

“The angel said to the women, Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” Matthew 28:5-6

The best thing about the tomb of Jesus is that it is empty! And, because of the empty tomb, we can have a full life.

This weekend, we honor and celebrate the victory Jesus secured for us. Special gatherings present an opportunity, not only for us, but for those we invite. Surveys show that most people visit a church service because someone else asked them. Here is what’s happening:

Good Friday Service at 7:00 PM (Highway Tabernacle)

The message will be about “gaining everything by willing to lose it all.”

We will also celebrate Communion together.

Easter Sunday Morning at 10:00AM (Highway Tabernacle)

The message is entitled: “I Promise” and looks at the awesome promises of    Jesus and how we get to experience them.

12 Noon Easter Service (Resurrection Life)

The message by Pastor Finney is entitled “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name!”

HIGHWAY TABERNACLE ~ RESURRECTION LIFE

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

Thanks again for all who helped with the many events on Saturday, April 12th – a Scholarship Fair, Work Day, Building Walkthrough, and FAMILY FUN DAY!

We couldn’t do it without the work of many, many people who love Next Generation Ministries, Spring Garden Academy, Resurrection Life, and Highway Tabernacle!

Volunteers logged over 250 hours while leadership added another 50 hours on that one day.

We had over 200 guests attend the Fun Fair and met over 50 families at the Scholarship Fair.

Much work also went into the days leading up to the events.  A special thanks to Mandi Spears and her team for the  many weeks of preparation to launch the clothing bank in the Tioga community.

Let’s pray that the seeds sown on April 12th will bear much fruit for the Kingdom and that many will come to know Jesus.

God is good!

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

“Push back” is a good phrase to describe what often happens in the spiritual realm. For example, when David was crowned king, the enemy didn’t like it. “When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they went up in full force to search for him…” 2 Sam. 5:17. When you take steps forward and experience a breakthrough in your life with Jesus, don’t be surprised at “push back” from the enemy. You may witness to a friend and see them make great steps and all of sudden a storm of distraction or persecution comes to them, tempting them to go backward.

Nicole and I were chatting this week about how the enemy doesn’t give up his territory without a fight. The best thing we can do is expect it and be prepared. After all, the Bible describes the Christian life as a battleground, not a playground. And, we must remember, just because there will be push back, we don’t want to make the mistake of giving in to fear. If we do nothing because of not wanting to make waves, we lose and others lose. In David’s case, he fought for what God had given him, and won great victories.

The Bible declares, “The Lord gave David victory everywhere he went. David reigned over all Israel, doing what was just and right for all his people” 1 Chron. 18:13b-14. To experience the joy of victory, we must be willing to “fight” in prayer and godly living. Through our Lord, we can win. Others are depending on us.

HIGHWAY TABERNACLE ~ RESURRECTION LIFE

Friday, April 11, 2014

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

Hello Friends,

I want to give you a preview of Sunday’s service. We are in a series called, “Alive in Jesus, the Journey with Jesus to Victory of Resurrected Living”.

This Sunday is Palm Sunday, the day Jesus presented Himself as King for all to see. I have a message on my heart about this event that I have never preached before. It is called, “What Do You Expect?” and has to do with the powerful ability God has given us to connect faith and expectations. We all “expect” something concerning the future and I pray this message inspires and uplifts you to expect great things ahead for you in Jesus! Come praying and “expecting” and you won’t be disappointed.

And one more thing, we are honored to have 9 brothers and sisters with us from Lakewood NJ. They are blessing us with ministry at SGA and Family Fun Day (Sat. outreach)…and a few of them will share testimonies on Sunday morning. See you Sunday.

God’s best to you!

Pastor Mark

Friday, April 11, 17th 8:30 am, 17th and Tioga

If you can join us to pray for our children, please contact Becky Robbins or Candace Wegner in the church/school office.  215-563-9192 (Highway) or 215-226-1000 (RLC).  You may also email Candace at Candace@SpringGardenAcademy.org.   We believe that God’s power changes lives and that God cares so deeply for the youngest of our church and school family.  Let’s pray in faith!
