“Following Jesus and Loving People”

Great passages of the Bible are not just gifts to be opened, appreciated, and set aside. Instead, they are like favorite dishes. You may not “eat” them every day, but they keep showing up on the table…always nutritious and satisfying. The Lord reminded me of a great passage from Philippians 4:6-7 while I was praying the other day. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” There are some amazing “morsels” from this passage.

I am reminded that worry and anxiety need not dominate my life. While there will always be things in my life’s journey which bring cause for “concern”, I can turn every one into prayer. And, while casting all my cares on the Lord, I am to include a healthy dose of gratitude (with thanksgiving, v6). This reminds me of God as my Father and not just my provider. Another morsel I feed on is the promise of peace. God’s peace is not an occasional feeling, but can be a constant companion. Favorable circumstances will come and go, but God’s peace is not dependent on the “weather”. In fact, His peace is not the   absence of something, but is the presence of something. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, peace rules. You can be in the midst of swirling complications, and experience peace because Jesus is there. He is the Prince of peace!

May our Lord grant each of us the faith to trust him with each day’s challenges and the peace which transcends all understanding.
