“Following Jesus and Loving People”

Sometimes we get the picture of God as an angry coach, waiting for his     players to fumble the ball and then taking us out of the game. God is like a coach in some ways, but he is not hoping we will fail so he can judge us. The Bible clearly shows us that God is for us, not against us! If we trust in Christ, we belong to God and the Lord sees us as his beloved child. The Bible is filled with verses to encourage us as we journey along with our Father. I read a few    verses from Psalm 20 which strengthened me today: “May he give you the   desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your requests.” Psalms 20:4-5

We all make plans for the future, and who of us doesn’t want our plans to     succeed? Because we live in an imperfect world, and we don’t always discern clearly, we don’t experience a life of uninterrupted success. However, in spite of life’s disappointments, God hasn’t called us to failure. Even when things don’t turn out as we expect, God still uses our struggles to grow character in us for our good (see Romans 8:28).

For our future plans to succeed we must first seek the Lord for his plans. I can’t expect God to run after me, blessing my plans; but I can expect God will show me his plans and for him to bless his plans. The key to living in the center of God’s blessing is to continually keep our heart yielded to God. Psalm 31:14-15a expresses this heart by stating, “But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, you are my God. My times are in your hands…” Also, Proverbs 16:3 declares, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” We do our part by  commitment and trust, and God does his part by giving us success…in his way and in his timing. Because the Lord is our coach, we not only know the game-plan, but we know that in the end, we win!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Pastor Mark Boucher

Let’s Make Highway Shine!

Our 120th anniversary is fast approaching (a month away) and we want the building (inside and out) to look great as we invite guests, returning members, and friends to celebrate with us.

If you can paint, clean, or help with odd jobs around the building, please contact Bob Monreal at bmonreal@springgardenacademy.org or 215-226-1000 or let Pastor Mark know.  Our priority for the next few weeks is the painting of the downstairs fellowship/classroom areas.  So, if you can paint, call now!

There is a lot to do but we can get it done as we work together.
