“Following Jesus and Loving People”

Signs are everywhere. We just returned last Saturday from a week away in   Massachusetts and as I travelled, I wondered how many billboard signs we could have counted from MA to PA…hundreds, thousands?  Most of these signs I simply ignored and some I gave a passing glance.  But on my vacation there was one sign that really blessed me. Maybe you can figure it out from this passage…“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” Romans 1:20. On my birthday (last Friday) I had the opportunity to go out on the ocean and do some fishing (Plymouth Bay). The weather was amazing. The sky was blue with puffy clouds. The water was a bluish green. The shoreline was lined with majestic trees and rugged rocks. All this was God’s sign! He reminds us each day that it all belongs to him and he is greater beyond our imagination! The Word tells us, “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters” Psalms 24:1-2. All signs have something in common: they get us to imagine and think about what is beyond the sign. To see a sign and pull over and park at the sign is to miss the point. When I see God’s creation, I recognize this is merely a sign of God’s greatness and his character. Creation is for us to enjoy, not to take us away from the    Creator. Love and worship the sign-maker! And if you think His work around you is beautiful now, just wait and see what’s ahead!
