HIGHWAY TABERNACLE ~ RESURRECTION LIFE

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

After Jesus rose from the dead, he instructed his disciples to wait for the Spirit. Exactly 50 days from the resurrection, on the Day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was poured out from the Father. Notice what Peter says of this event to the curious crowd which gathered. “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my  Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy” (Acts 2:17-18). Notice that Peter uses the expression, “poured out” twice when describing this amazing act of God. The Bible describes this world as a “dry and weary land where there is no water” (Psalms 63:1). Like a lost person in the desert, the lost soul today wanders restlessly trying to find something to quench the heart’s desire for satisfaction. God has already poured out what we need! We understand that most people in the world miss God’s Spirit because of lack of repentance and faith. But, what about God’s people? Do we settle for a dry soul, with drips of raindrops here and there? What can we do to receive what God has poured out? In my own experience, when I’m dry, the Lord reminds me of these truths:

1. I need to stop seeking for satisfaction in the world and seek the Lord himself. He is the living water…nothing else satisfies. When I pray and read the Word in private, I drink in the Spirit of Jesus.  When I meet with other believers, I drink in the Spirit of Jesus.

2. I need to position my soul where water is being poured out. The reason I go to church and attend small group meetings is not out of obligation or guilt. I want more of his Word and Spirit…and these won’t automatically come “flowing” after me. I must direct my footsteps to the places where I can drink and  receive more of the Spirit.

God loves to meet the thirsty heart and there is no limit to His resources! A preacher of long ago declared, “You have as much of the Holy Spirit as you desire right now.”
