“Following Jesus and Loving People”

It’s so easy to say, “Just trust God”…until there’s something we need to trust him for! As a Christian I marvel at the wonderful “benefits” which God daily loads on us. However, there are many things that challenge my faith. These challenges or “tests” are good for me even though I would not choose them. In the midst of tests, we tend to rely on what we feel will get us through. The natural thing is to trust in what is around us or what we can see. In the Bible days, kings and leaders tended to trust in their own armies and resources. God had to remind them, “No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save” Psalm 33:16-17. Today, we are tempted to trust in the economy, or our job, or our own abilities. As important as these are, all things in this world are in a state of movement and change. The One thing we need to trust is he who is unchangeable and unshakeable. Believers through the ages found the Lord to be trustworthy. He can handle anything that comes our way! That is why the Psalmist went on to say (in Psalm 33:20-22), “We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you.” If you are in a time of testing, look to the Lord, asking for his grace to respond to your trial by quietly trusting in the Lord and his ability to save and deliver!
