This is the time of year that we let families in our community know about affordable and accessible private Christian school options, particularly at Spring Garden Academy.  We take time to walk families through actual SCHOLARSHIP applications (which are due soon!).  Feel free to invite friends and families to ONE of these events.

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

 

God keeps his promises! The “in-between” time (from promise to fulfillment) may seem to test your faith, but hang in there with the Lord, and you will not be disappointed. These words describe the experience of two of God’s choice servants, Abraham and Sarah. God promised them many descendants, but year after year passed…and no children. About one year before their son, Isaac was born, God spoke this to Abraham, “I am God Almighty; walk before me and be blameless. I will confirm my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers” (Gen. 17:1b-2). They believed what God promised and lived to see his blessings.

When I read the Word of God, I try to read with my ear open to God’s voice. During our week of prayer, I felt God impressing this same promise to Abraham into my spirit for Highway and Resurrection Life churches. I believe God will confirm his promise to our churches and will increase us in every way. Like many of God’s promises, they require a response on our part. God challenges us is to walk before him and “be blameless”. This doesn’t mean we have to be sinlessly perfect (who would qualify?), however, we must go after God in holiness of heart and daily life practices. In other words, we can’t expect the blessings of fulfillment while we are harboring and replacing God with sinful idols. So, the challenge is to walk with Jesus in honesty and integrity, and take hold of the promises he speaks to our heart. Write them down, recall them in times of testing, and persevere during those seasons when  nothing seems to work. Abraham and Sarah named their son, Isaac, which means laughter. May joy and laughter fill your heart as you wait on God and experience answers to prayer.

To all youth (and parents):

 

Come to Youth Night this Friday at Resurrection Life (17^th and Tioga) to learn more about the Youth Convention in Hershey AND the Fine Arts festival for youth (6^th-12^th grades) and young adults (ages 18-23) during your Easter Break.  Here is Friday’s schedule.

Youth Night Friday – this week, January 7^th, Resurrection Life

 

4-5:30 pm Bible Quiz Practice (for those on BQ team now) – others come later or come to watch!

5:30-7 pm Dinner/ Fine Arts Youth Meeting (youth and/or parents)

7 pm Family Night Prayer

 

There are MANY categories (drama, music, writing, photography, video, painting, dance, etc.), so there is something for everyone to do.  Fine Arts also includes human video and drama, similar to what many of you did as NGM interns, so we can always work together. 

 

The first Fine Arts event (for youth, not young adults) will be on Saturday, February 21^st in Audubon.  We will take our bus.  If you do well, you will be invited to participate at the district competition on April 1-3 (Easter break week) before the Youth Convention on April 4-5 (for all our youth) at the Giant Center in Hershey.  After that, we are hoping some of us will be invited to the national event in Orlando, FL in August.

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

 

 

 

As we enter 2015, I think of how God provides for us in our changing circumstances. Life would be chaotic if everything changed every day. And, life would be  extremely dull if nothing ever changed. Because God created the world, he understands our hearts as we go through the  passing of time and the process of change. In my readings this week, C.S. Lewis reminded me that we possess both a love of change and a love of permanence. He wrote, “He (God) has contrived to gratify both tastes together in the very world He has made, by that union of change and permanence which we call Rhythm”.  So, God gives us “rhythms” in life, like the seasons, which push us into change and yet reminds us of the stability of God’s ordered world. The Bible provides many passages which comfort and challenge us as we experience the rhythms and  passing of time. First, let’s      consider some verses which speak to our need of permanence. David, the psalmist, repeatedly reminded us that, “God is our refuge and strength…the Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress” (Psalm 46:1a, 7).  Peter, the disciple, reminded us that we are aliens and strangers passing through this world…and yet, we are “a holy nation, a people belonging to God” (1 Peter 2:9, 11). So, no matter how the storms of life rage, our hearts are anchored in Jesus. He never changes. The truth of Jesus comforts me, and also challenges me to embrace change. The Bible teaches us that Christians are on this earth to grow and change to become just like Jesus. “And we, who with       unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” (2 Cor. 3:18). Only God, in His amazing wisdom can meet our need for both permanence and change. By living for Jesus every day, we receive courage to face the winds of change while we hold to the One who will always be the Great I Am! May you walk into 2015 with faith and confidence!
