“Following Jesus and Loving People”

A few weeks ago I was speaking with someone who has a relative with Alzheimer’s disease. She explained that little by little the memories of this person were being erased, making them unable to remember past events and relationships. To recall past events is vital to our health. God knows about the power of remembrance and continually challenged and commanded his people to remember him and the great things he has done. Before entering the promised land, the people of God received a message from God through Moses, which takes up most of the Book of Deuteronomy. Of the 231 times “remember” is mentioned in the Bible, Deuteronomy contains more occurrences (16) than any other book. For example, Moses said, “Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands” (Deut. 8:2). On our journey today, we are to “dip into the past” to benefit us in the present. We can’t live in the past or dwell on former experiences, as if there were some “ideal time” with which to compare the present. So, when God commands us to remember, he is challenging us to   deliberately call to mind his faithfulness and steadfast character…that we might reciprocate devotion and faithfulness to him. As people connected with Highway Mission Tabernacle, we stand in awe as we consider the amazing faithfulness of God down through the years!  To those of you who have been past members and adherents of Highway, we say THANK YOU for your unique investment in this church and city.  Your presence today is a great encouragement to Highway and Resurrection Life as we attempt to, “Honor the past and change the future.” We deeply respect and rejoice in your faithfulness to the Lord and this church. With the foundation of such a great heritage, we commit ourselves today to trust and obey God for the future he envisions for his church!

Nursery Need: Great things are happening on Family Night—Thursdays at Highway and Fridays at Resurrection Life! We now provide nursery  service on these evenings. If you are able to contribute to help pay the nursery costs, you will enable parents and older siblings to attend church rather than stay home. Your on-going help—weekly or monthly—is   greatly appreciated! Any amount helps!

A special thank-you to all who have helped decorate, clean, paint, cook and coordinate various details to prepare for this special anniversary!  God’s Word says, “God is not unjust; he will not  forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 6:10
