“Following Jesus and Loving People”

Sometimes, when we pray we seem to get “no” for an answer. This can confuse or discourage us if we interpret God’s no as God’s denial. However, we must understand that God knows more than we do, and his no is not a denial as much as a new direction. After he was saved by Jesus, Paul dedicated himself to travel for Jesus spreading the Word of God. One day he was travelling with a team of Christian workers and they wanted to go north, but were “blocked”. Acts 16:7 says of this event, “When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.” The team could have complained and wondered why God would say no. After all, they were just trying to do something good. However, the Lord later revealed his will in a dream to the Apostle Paul. They were to enter Greece and spread the Word on a new continent! As believers, we have the same “Spirit of Jesus” in us. When we don’t get what we think we want, let’s have faith enough to believe that God is sovereign and he knows how to guide us to something better. When I look back at my life, I thank God for “road blocks”. How royally I would have messed up my life if God gave me everything I wanted! The name of the old TV show comes to mind, “Father knows best.” When we pray and seem to get no for an answer, we can believe that the Lord’s delays and road blocks are part of his plan to make “all things work together for our good” (Romans 8:28). Trust him…he knows what he is doing and we will understand it later.
