HIGHWAY TABERNACLE ~ RESURRECTION LIFE

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

Give and take…all relationships have this in common. For a relationship to exist, something must be given and something must be received. For example, I know about the President of France, but we have never exchanged anything (time, letters, communication, etc.). Because of no “give and take,” we have no relationship. The Bible reveals to us that God created us to live in a relationship with him, and he spelled out to us the way this “give and take” would work. First, because of our sin, God made a way for us to be cleansed through the blood of his Son, Jesus. God gave his One and only Son (John 3:16) in order to take our sins away. Once the sin issue is resolved, we are invited into a “covenant” relationship with God. This covenant, or sacred promise, is a love relationship built on trust and mutual faithfulness. In the Book of Malachi, God speaks of this “give and take” covenant which he established with Levi, the father of the priestly tribe of Israel. God said, “My covenant was with him, a covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him; this called for reverence and he revered me and stood in awe of my name…he walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin” (Mal. 2:5-6). This passage speaks to us as believers who are called a “royal priesthood” (1 Pet. 2:9). God gives us that which is infinitely greater than we can give him. Yet, he expects something from us. He gives life and peace to those who live for him! Think about this awesome gift…you, who have been dead in sins and made alive in Christ. You have entered into peace with God and experience the peace of God. This life and peace is not just for this life but for eternity! What do we then give God? Of Levi, the Bible declared, “he revered me and stood in awe of my name” (v. 5). So, after all God gives for us to enjoy his presence, he now expects us to give something to him…a life of reverence! We serve a great God! Let’s live in awe of him!
