HIGHWAY TABERNACLE ~ RESURRECTION LIFE

“Following Jesus and Loving People”

We are told that knowledge is power. I would ask the question, “What do you mean by knowledge?” If knowledge is simply the accumulation of information and facts, we should be the most powerful, well-adjusted people in all human history! A simple observation of our societal problems reveals that knowledge alone cannot “save” us. Believe me, I am not against knowledge. It beats ignorance by a long shot. However, the Bible reveals to us the limitations of knowledge as well as challenges us to pursue godly knowledge. In my devotional reading of Hosea, I discovered the people of Israel had neglected the knowledge of God. To the Israelites God said,

            “Hear the word of the Lord, O children of Israel,
            for the Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land.
            There is no faithfulness or steadfast love, and no knowledge of God in the land;
                there is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery;
            they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed”
(Hosea 4:1-2).

The Israelites abandoned the knowledge of God. Did this “freedom” from God and religion help them find a better life? Just the opposite…“my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). What we don’t know about God or his ways can ruin us. The only answer to finding knowledge is through the Bible, God’s Word. The Word is not just another “religious book” showing a path to God. It is God revealing himself and his ways so that we might know him! The reason we speak so highly of God’s Word at church is so we might know the Lord, please him, and experience our greatest life possible. What are you doing to increase the knowledge of God in your life and family? Are you reading and studying daily? Are you hungry to hear the Word at church and Bible study? Are you reading the Word to your children and talking about it daily? The knowledge of God leads to right relationships with God and others, enabling us to make wise choices. The most important challenge I can leave with you is, seek the Lord and his knowledge and wisdom! “For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Prov. 2:6).
