“Following Jesus and Loving People”

God always provides for his people. While reading the story of the children of Israel in Numbers, I see how God lovingly provided a “cloud of guidance” for them as they traveled through the desert. The cloud was visible by day and “from evening till morning the cloud above the tabernacle looked like fire. Whenever the cloud lifted from above the Tent, the Israelites set out; whenever the cloud settled, the Israelites  encamped” (Num. 9:15-17). The instructions were quite simple, “follow the cloud.” I can’t help thinking how nice it would be to have such a cloud today. But then, God’s people are all over the earth, and such a cloud would cause great confusion. God knows what he is doing. Today, we possess something better than a cloud. He has given us his very presence through the Holy Spirit. Our responsibility is to seek the Lord, keep a soft heart, and obey the prompting and leading of the Spirit.  Although watching a cloud may seem easier, God’s plan for his children today is to teach us to live by faith, following the leading of his Spirit. At times, it seems God chooses to be silent, but be assured that he is always at work. And, at the right time he will reveal his will to those who love him. As you are seeking his will, don’t panic or always be looking for “signs”. God will confirm his will and wants us to learn to wait on him and get to know his voice. Let him speak his promises to our hearts. From past experiences of God’s faithfulness, we can learn to trust his ability to lead and guide us…no matter if our current address is, “desert avenue”. He knows where we live!
